I often praised Vimeo an online video streaming site for its high quality of video and its superb community. When they introduced Hi Def I knew they was serious about how people watch video on the web. This was something that competitor youtube just realized and created higher quality video, but still inferior to Vimeo. Vimeo also gives an allotment of 500mb a week which is something that baffles me on how they can sustain. It appears as thought they might be reaching there threshold. Whats been up with Vimeo lately. For the past two or three weeks now I have been experiencing nothing but slow uploads and slower conversion times. I hope they still have the ability to maintain the current amount of users and also support the continuing new user sign ups. But when you have apparent difficulties with your service that is when people begin to switch. I personally am going to hang in there and hope this gets cleared up soon because I love this site for it quality and artistic community. However those with lower patients would give in to another video community like viddler or youtube.

Take a look at some of these conversion times and see if you could put up with them.

Eventually yes the video was converted but these are some scary numbers. But it took all night to upload and convert. That is never a good thing but I am a trooper and will report when things look like they are better.

***Update*** Here is a reply from Blake Whitman staff at vimeo. “We are growing rapidly, but we are taking measures in the upcoming weeks to combat the increase in traffic. We’ll get back to normal soon enough.”
