If you missed out on the last p0wnz deal it looks like this deal from Dell is now bye bye see ya later gone. Sorry if you didn’t take advantage of this because I got a 99.8% fully functional Mac Pro Hackintosh. You can check out the specs below My preferred method for installing this was with the use of iPC 10.5.6 beta. When first attempting to install this I had tried various install combinations but could not get it to boot. All I would get is an apple logo for approx two and a half minutes and then a circle with a line threw it or a don’t symbol (similar to a no smoking symbol). There was no work around for that. I had to use a different install disk to get it up and running. I chose to use Kalyway 10.5.1 which worked flawlessly with Vanilla kernel applied. However I was not satisfied with 10.5.1 because I wanted to take advantage of all the new features. I then by chance happen to see that iPC had two new update patches PPF4 and PPF5. So I reapplied this to the iso files and re burned it. Upon installing I used the following settings. Audio ACL888 drivers, No video drivers selected, ICH9/10 HDD patch, DSDT SMBIOS patch selected and that is all. Everything else can be done after installation.
Dell Vostro 410 OSX Hackintosh 10.5.6 from Encript on Vimeo.
Specs.
Intel Q6600 Quad Core Processor
Is detected as 4.0 ghz for some reason I am currently looking into a solution to fix that.
3GB DDR2 SDRAM 800MHZ – 2X1GB+2X512MB.
Ram is detected fine and provides good memory for running applications.
256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450-supports (DVI,HDMI+VGA) Connections
When installing OSX on this dell I tried many different combinations to try and get this video card to work however all attempts failed miserably. Keep an eye out on this page an quite possibly a worked up driver might be created by the talented lastexile Insanely Mac Link. Instead of waiting around for these drivers to be created there have been specially made kext files kext link which have been created specifically for this card. Once installed you can take advantage of all your monitors resolutions. Bad side you will not get Quartz Extreme which is necessary for many applications to work properly. including frontrow and imovie.
Dell 19 inch Widescreen E1909WFP Analog Flat Panel Display
Highest resolution this monitor can support is 1440×900. Once the drivers for the ATI 3450HD PCIe installed you can take advantage of this high resolution.
Norcent 2200 HDTV
I then hooked this up to my HDTV via VGA to take advantage of some space issues in my house and to use it as a Media PC. Highest Resolution I can get on this is 1280×720. 720p is not bad at all I can work with that.
Realtek Ethernet Drivers
These work off the bat no problems here.
Realtek Audio Drivers ACL888
This works when you have ACL888 checked when installing. Also if your having problems getting the drivers to work you can install them again post install. If ACL888 doesn’t work try ACL888 Legacy which you can find from browsing the install disc.
GeForce 8400GS
I bought this thing because I needed to get a video card that supported Quartz Extreme. This works right out of the box for me I didnt have to add anything for it to work. But other say that they needed to use nvidia inject 0.2.1 to get it to work properly so now I have a 100% functional mac pro for 550 with a 19 monitor.
Update
I recommend that if you are planning on installing Mac 10.5.6 to use iPC with all the latest patches applied because this will end up saving you some time in the long run. As of writing this iPC was up to PPF5. Also I love Mac OSX so much that I ordered the new bundle of leopard, ilife and iwork.
Also a little explanation of the kernel panic I received when I would try and boot. I would get this odd circle with a line through it because of ICH9/ICH10 chipset patch not properly applied. So you make sure you select that so you don’t get a big headache.

Great article. Thank you very much. I am a total noob with anything Hackintosh. I have the same machine and have failed in my 1st attempt with Boot-123 with the same square/circle. I have downloaded the iPC 5 final. Can I use this iso to install and reboot without a problem or do I have to use Kalaway?
You also mentioned that we need to apple the ICH9/ICH10 chipset patch to not have the kernal panic at startup. Sorry for the dumb question, but do I apply this patch at the install with iPC 5 or Kalaway?
Thanks again for the great article.
I would recommend sticking with the iPC with all the latest patches because it has worked out very good for me up until this day. You will see all the needed patches when you go to customize when your installing from iPC. The last set of options will have the chip set patches. Its not a dumb question I had a hard time with kernel problems also.
Hey I have a dell studio that I use as my HTPC. I am thinking about putting osx86 on there. I have been messing with it on other pcs I have but if I am going to do this it needs to work because well its my htpc that I use ALOT haha. I have the ICH10 chipset so that shouldn’t be a problem. However I have the ati HD3450. You said it works if I don’t install any driver it just isn’t fully supported… can it still support HDMI out? and whats the max resolution?
Great write up. I also have a Vostro 410 with the same specs as you. I patched the iPC OSx86 Universal 10.5.6 with the V. 1.1 PPF using ppf-o-matic, but I am still getting the circle with a line through it. Any ideas what could be wrong? I might have to try the Kalyway install instead.
Hey, I have the same PC Vostro 400 but pretty much the same specs except for the video card 7600GT. Do you think it will work right out the box and do I need a separate hard drive to install OSX?
Eric : It wont have the maximum output resolution you will just get the most 1024×768. I need to verify if new drivers have been created for that card. I will update the post when I find new info.
Siri: Make sure you use PPF5 that the last one I checked and I dont think there was a new one.
Mike: I will look at the specs to verify if it would make a good hackintosh . Im almost certain it make a better hackintosh then the 410.
Encript, thanks. I got it fully working
Ok, WTH!?! I formatted and tried to install it again but now I can’t detect my Unallocated partition in Diskpart? What did I do wrong?
How did you partition the drive. Give me a little more details on what you did?
Ok, I got it to work by:
Formatted the drive and marked it as “Active” in Disk Management. I didn’t do the Diskpart because it didn’t recognize the Unallocated partition.
My only problem is that it doesn’t give me an option to choose between Vista and OSX when boot unless I press “-”. Is there a way I could fix this so I don’t have to press anything to get the option?
Thanks for your help encript. I now have my 410 at 99% working. I’ve been looking all over trying to get 5.1 surround sound to fully work. I used ACL888 as you posted, but it only gave me 1-line out. So I used the legacy ACL888 and I got 3 line outs. I configured an aggregate device to try to make 5.1 work, but it’s still only 2 channels. How did you overcome this?
And the last piece of the puzzle is getting Sleep to work. I used the EHCISleepEnabler.kext but that didn’t work. Did you use any special packages? Thanks again for all your help. I wouldn’t have even considered doing this hack until I saw your video!
- Mike I used this guide to triple boot Xp, Vista, and OSX. Maybe that will help. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=79192
To be honest I never got sleep to work. Others have said that they have not had any problems with this, but it is definitely a problem to which I have not found a solution to. As for 5.1 I don’t think the current sound card installed in the vostro 410 work with full 5.1 on a hackintosh. The legacy audio drivers will give you a maximum of three channels. For me this was good although audiophiles might complain about this. I will check out sleep kexts and let you know if there is one that corrects this. Please be warned that Apple has released a new update to the operating systems and I do not know how this will affect hackintosh machines. It could break and send it into a kernel panic.
I went ahead and did the update since my install was still fresh. Didn’t mind having to reinstall if it broke. I was able to update to 10.5.7 successfully. After the update finished installing, the computer rebooted twice. Only thing I had to do was reinstall the audio. Haven’t gotten any kernel panics or problems yet.
As for the sleep issue, I looked at other Dell Hackintosh installs that are able to sleep and they installed the voodoo kernel. I may try that when I’m not lazy.
How do you re-install audio by itself? And dI thought Voodoo Kernel was only for AMD processor?
Hello – sorry for my english . iAtkos v7 work perfectly on my vostro 410 . before read your instructions i have 15 failed installations in 2 days
broadcom wifi yes
sound yes
video nvdarwin yes 2monitors 8800 gt
dvd rw not tested
@Vortex: What Broadcom wifi do you have and what drivers do you have.
hello.1 time install iAtkos v7 without video and audio drivers with broadcom driver from v7 dvd – my wifi complected with dell vostro 410 and in 1 start osx found wifi connections . and i found very simple way to install all drivers – from ideneb 10.5.7 dvd video driver – just select video driver or any other fix you want and install booting from dvd
but have 1 big problem – my hackintosh working perfectly all dvd roms burning ant ………but shutdown function not works it just restarts
try the openhaltrestart fix which should also be on the dvd in the patches section. This should fix the shutdown sleep problems.
I downloaded iATKOS v7 and installed it on my Vostro 410 but when it boots I get the nice grey screen with the ‘no’ symbol (circle with line through). I didn’t do anything but just go through the install, could you list specifically how you got it installed? What extra steps you took besides a normal OS install? Any help would be great
I just wanted to report that I got it working, I also bought a nvidia card (9400 GT) and everything just works. I did an update to 10.5.8 and the audio didn’t work, found a post somewhere to fix it (should have saved it, sorry). I think everything is working, even dual screen goodness!
Hey glad you got it working. So tell us a little about that card. I’ve been looking to upgrade to something new.
Hey this 99% worked for me, but my headphone jack on the front doesn’t do anything. I plug it in and sound keeps chugging along on the speakers. On the iPC install I selected ALC888, has anyone gotten headphones working?
Also, has anyone tried installing 10.6 yet? I spent all day today trying. I got it installed using mostly dsdt from my current 10.5.6 install but got kp on bootup.
Update– ALC888Legacy allows for headphones, sorry I didn’t read the comments.
At any rate, who is interested in trying to get 10.6 working? I believe the main problem is (at least for me, my 410 has ICH9R) getting sata support to work properly. Netkas created a supposed fix, but it didn’t work for all of us vostro and xps 410 users. Check out the post here: http://netkas.org/?p=125
I’m think we should start a thread on insanelymac for 410 users trying a snow upgrade?
Not sure if anyone is reading this post anymore or not, but I have successfully installed and am running 10.6.1 on my vostro 410. I will post a concise guide in a few days here once I make sure its actually stable.
I have also been in the works for making a guide. But its pretty much the same as before. Minus a few hiccups. Did you encounter any serious problems tagavor?
let us know when the 10.6.1 guide is available!
The panasonic viera is one of the hottest gifts this Christmas, they’re selling out fast. I found mine at link removed.
