Hey guys, have you been trying to update the firmware on your Panasonic Blu-ray player only to end up with coaster after coaster. Something as simple as updating the firmware on a device somehow turned into an archaic demonstration in frustration. Why CD’s? Why not just let the user place the firmware on an SD card and be done with it? Either way, if you have something other than Windows XP you more than likely have encountered some issues with how the blu-ray player reads your firmware update disc. Your player might give you a L FVU message and then followed by an error message and spits your disc back out. In my attempts I used Imgburn, which I use for everything; all attempts were unsuccessful. Here is an easy solution, for one do not use the Windows Vista or Windows 7 built in disc wizard because it does not finalize the disc in a way that the blu-ray player can read. Instead use a free app called Infrarecorder. On its default settings just drag the firmware file and burn it. Use a CD-RW so you dont keep wasting discs. Once you load it in your blu-ray player you will see that the update process finally will commence. This should work for other Panasonic players as well.

PS. Panasonic please make updating the software more simplified. Perhaps SD card or USB Slot. Thanks.

If you have had to search the internet just to figure out how to submit a ticket for Gizmo5 then I apologies now. But you are in the right place. Gizmo5 offers some great services but do not expect support when things do not work according to plan. It is like a secret process just trying to get some assistance. Hopefully the information below will help.

Submitting a ticket is done from logging in to your account and clicking on your account information (as you normally would). On the bottom you can click on the submit ticket button where you can then send your query. But don’t think you can view your ticket again this way, you have to now log into another place to follow up on your ticket. 99% of the time people who submit tickets have their tickets closed because they do not know how to follow up on it after its been submitted.

To follow up on a ticket you must first log in here if you do not have your password for submitting tickets then use the forgot password link above. Not its not the same password that you normally use to log in.

Once you are logged in you can view tickets you have submitted and reply to them this will finally allow you to get your issue “resolved”. This should not be this difficult to get some help. Google you wanted to buy them now you have to clean up the mess.

What if other things could get banned response to Microsoft

Imagine for a moment if we lived in a world where other things could get banned. Where at any moment at the discretion of a corporation your device will no longer be as functional as it was when you purchased it. What level of monitoring is necessary to achieve this and is it too intrusive. Should everyone be informed that they are being monitored. Windows genuine advantage checks for guarantees that the user is definitively using a genuine copy of windows. It can be determined whether that copy of windows is genuine. If it fails such a test that person will no longer receive updates from Microsoft. In addition to not receiving updates they will get a notification at start up that warns you that this may be a pirated copy. But what if Microsoft decided instead to disable your hard drive or prevent you from playing movies or music. Perhaps they will corrupt your files. You agreed to the Terms of Agreement when you first installed it. So any subsequent changes thereafter will be the responsibility of the user. They can pretty much do what ever because you the user still want to use it.

Does this sound familiar to you? Yes I am referring to Microsoft’s banning practices for its Xbox360 game console. Fair is fair and playing pirated games on their service is prohibited and subject to violations as per the TOS. However other functionality asides from xbox live services should not be affected. For example many banned users are complaining that the HDD and all save states are corrupted and are no longer retrievable. This includes games that were installed on the hard drive whether they were legitimate or not. Playing games from the HDD was crippled. So the HDD can only be used by formatting it on another console which is not banned.

It can only be assumed that this tactic sounds as though Microsoft is taking this more personally and is angered. Thus taking more extreme measures then the usual force to counter piracy. Hence ensuring that banned customers repurchase the console to get 100% functionality again. Purchases of new consoles will boost hardware sales during this 2009 4th quarter holiday season. Which makes the timing of this all the more planned. With this said in this day and age it is eerie to know that consumers are being monitored so closely and it should be emphasized that anyone who plans on modifying anything and then using that device online should expect to be watched.

Imagine banning Other Things

Perhaps Zune users who have pirated MP3′s can no longer use the Zune Marketplace. Limited playback functionality.

Blu-ray or DVD players with network connections cannot receive updated movie content for using pirated movies.

Windows Users with out genuine copies will have their files corrupted and functionality removed.

Cellphone providers who find unlocked phones on their network that they do not sell themselves will be banned from using their service.

If you have an entertainment system or you have a computer media system it tends to become heavy on the wires thus making it look untidy. What can be done to clean up the looks? Well there are a variety of methods that can be used. Twist ties work well but still you can see each wire, same for the Velcro ties. But if your get cable zip cords they clean up your wires in one shot. They take a bunch of wires and make them into one giving you a clean simple looks for your entertainment or computer system. Here is a before and after of what my system looked like.

These can be purchased at your local staples. Although I have seen them in other places.

So if I am just playing a video game in a video It will get removed? Why Vimeo, is what I upload not entertaining enough or helpful for people. Does everything I upload have to be approved by Spielberg. I know this is suppose to be a video sharing site, with the intention of sharing high quality videos. Its understandable that not all content belongs and can be harmful in someway. Such as content that depicts or promotes violence and pornography. But what did my little Geometry Wars video ever do. Some people found it helpful, this is why the internet is so great if you have a question, just search for it and more than likely someone else already has an answer. I wonder why youtube is so popular.

Be Cautious when buying an iPhone on eBay

My sister recently asked me where could she find an older 1st generation iPhone. She preferred this model more over the 3G model. I told her the best place to find an older version would be on eBay and thus the calamity begins. You wouldn’t believe how difficult it was to find legitimate iPhones on eBay. All we could find were cheap aftermarket unofficial knockoff facsimiles of iPhones. Sellers were boasting and proudly selling these knockoffs as though they were the authentic company. This is what we found when looking for iPhones eBay Link I asked this seller if this was an official iphone from apple because I was skeptical and that I felt the title was misleading people the seller responded by stating

I dont think it is misleading, it does not have Apple iPhone in the title. But is an iphone only difference between this one and an Apple is it doesnt have a GPS app.

meanwhile the pictures and descriptions were taken directly from the apple website. How could this not be misleading people. There is only one company which is able to sell a product named the iPhone and that’s apple. Linksys tried to make use the iPhone name prior to apple and then tried to sue apple for the rights of the name and lost. I just feel sorry for the person who purchased this item because I don’t think they know what they bought. Buyer beware.

UPDATE: eBay pulled the auction because they must have realized this guy was a scam artist link.

Did you know that you can use your computer monitor as an HDTV saving you some money on getting a brand new HDTV. If you purchased a monitor which has DVI or HDMI inputs it is possible that you can use this as an HDTV because it is capable of receiving HD input signals. If your monitor was like my monitor it will require a little more muscle to get you up and running. Because my monitor used DVI I needed to get a DVI to HDMI converter cable which converts the connectors. I am pretty sure most TV cable companies do not have boxes which have DVI connectors on them so there was no avoiding this step. I checked staples first and could not find the cable I needed. I then checked best buy and found it but it was waaaaay too much money. They ranged anywhere from $60.00 to $99.99 dollars. So I ended up having to look for it online. I checked a few places. A friend referred me to a site called www.monoprice.com. They had what I wanted but still a little bit more than I was willing to pay. So finally I checked eBay and there it was for $9.01 with free shipping so I ordered one. Once I got the item in the mail It was as simple as plug and play. The only adjustment you would have to make is where your sound is going to come from since most monitor do not come with speakers you will need to get external speakers. If you have some cheap satellite speakers laying around you will need yet another converter cable. This time you will need to find a 1/8th” Stereo to RCA cable, radio shack RadioShack Linky has plenty of these.

So what are the down sides? Well Dell monitors (or monitors in general) don’t have IR sensors on them so I cant turn it off with a remote. I have to power it down the old fashion way. Speakers have to be turned off the old fashion way also. Monitors were not meant to be used as televisions. The amount of hours that Televisions are in use for far surpass that of computer use. This probably will burn out faster than a TV would. It could get hot very quickly. The viewing angles are not very wide and the contrast ratio is also low. It was meant for the person to be directly in front of the monitor, so not to the side or below. Other than that I feel its still worth it because it saves me space that my tube tv didn’t do and I get to utilize the HD signals.

Checklist
Video – Monitor with either HDMI or DVI input this was mine yours will vary.
Video – If DVI then you will need a converter cable. (DVI to HDMI Male to Male) my dell was DVI-D. Yours might be different please verify this before you purchase. eBay
Video – Cable box or Satellite box with HDMI output.
Sound – 1/8th” Stereo to RCA cable. RadioShack
