Imagine the new possibilities the new Xbox 360 Kinect will have on the future of games. Yes the wii was first to do this but Microsoft has taken it to an entirely new level of interactivity. It is almost as though they have launched a new system. So a friend and I were discussing how would sports games be changed with the Kinect and more specifically how would a game of Madden be played?

Being the quarterback would be simple and fun to implement but once the ball has been passed to another teammate would the controls be switched over? It would be the most logical that who ever is the last to hold the ball will now be controlled. Ok, well that seems to work well with offense but how about defense. Will the camera angle switch over so that now you can see the quarterbacks face while you rush him. That would be awesome wouldn’t it? Who will you choose to be on defense and how will you choose them will be the issue. Lets assume the QB gets the pass off while you are in defense, if the camera rotates back to default it might make a player dizzy in addition to that how will you choose a player to tackle. It looks like Microsoft and developers have some challenges ahead of them regarding what type of games the kinect will be able to handle.

We all know the Xbox 360 as a hardcore gamers console so if the kinect will only allow casual games then the hardcore gamers will feel a little abandoned. Perhaps this is there plan to broaden the spectrum of games the xbox is known for. If you asked me its pretty much a 1st person shooter console. The vast majority of the games are in this genre, so in my opinion a new set of games is a much needed refresh. I am excited to see what types of innovative games we will see from Microsoft in the coming year.

While it looks like every single other drive has gotten or is getting a version of iXtreme’s LT firmware it appears as though good old hitachi drive owners will have to wait a little while longer. Either they will remain dead last to receive the coveted firmware or not receive it at all. When work first began on these firmwares it was mentioned that all drives would be getting LT, as mentioned on TeamJungle’s twitter page

iXtreme LT in dev (for all drives) – minimal patching, all aspects of fw indistinguishable from orig No ETA!

7 Months later it would seem as though Hitachi has yet to even give word if its still being worked on. My opinion, move on to the other consoles where LT is supported and don’t get your hopes up for a Hitachi LT. Maybe by the end of the year.

Imagine for a moment if we lived in a world where other things could get banned. Where at any moment at the discretion of a corporation your device will no longer be as functional as it was when you purchased it. What level of monitoring is necessary to achieve this and is it too intrusive. Should everyone be informed that they are being monitored. Windows genuine advantage checks for guarantees that the user is definitively using a genuine copy of windows. It can be determined whether that copy of windows is genuine. If it fails such a test that person will no longer receive updates from Microsoft. In addition to not receiving updates they will get a notification at start up that warns you that this may be a pirated copy. But what if Microsoft decided instead to disable your hard drive or prevent you from playing movies or music. Perhaps they will corrupt your files. You agreed to the Terms of Agreement when you first installed it. So any subsequent changes thereafter will be the responsibility of the user. They can pretty much do what ever because you the user still want to use it.

Does this sound familiar to you? Yes I am referring to Microsoft’s banning practices for its Xbox360 game console. Fair is fair and playing pirated games on their service is prohibited and subject to violations as per the TOS. However other functionality asides from xbox live services should not be affected. For example many banned users are complaining that the HDD and all save states are corrupted and are no longer retrievable. This includes games that were installed on the hard drive whether they were legitimate or not. Playing games from the HDD was crippled. So the HDD can only be used by formatting it on another console which is not banned.

It can only be assumed that this tactic sounds as though Microsoft is taking this more personally and is angered. Thus taking more extreme measures then the usual force to counter piracy. Hence ensuring that banned customers repurchase the console to get 100% functionality again. Purchases of new consoles will boost hardware sales during this 2009 4th quarter holiday season. Which makes the timing of this all the more planned. With this said in this day and age it is eerie to know that consumers are being monitored so closely and it should be emphasized that anyone who plans on modifying anything and then using that device online should expect to be watched.

Imagine banning Other Things

Perhaps Zune users who have pirated MP3′s can no longer use the Zune Marketplace. Limited playback functionality.

Blu-ray or DVD players with network connections cannot receive updated movie content for using pirated movies.

Windows Users with out genuine copies will have their files corrupted and functionality removed.

Cellphone providers who find unlocked phones on their network that they do not sell themselves will be banned from using their service.

I received an email from rights@vimeo.com

Dear Encript:

Your video ‘Geometry Wars 1,000,000 points(921864)’ has been removed for violating the Upload Rules of Vimeo.com:
Vimeo does not allow game walk-throughs, game strategy videos, depictions of player vs player battles, raids, or any other video gaming video that simply depicts individuals playing a video game.

If you believe this was an error, please reply to this email in a civil manner with your reasoning (“I see other people do it” is not a valid reason).

Regards,
Vimeo

Thank you vimeo but this part makes me laugh especially hard

or any other video gaming video that simply depicts individuals playing a video game

So if I am just playing a video game in a video It will get removed? Why Vimeo, is what I upload not entertaining enough or helpful for people. Does everything I upload have to be approved by Spielberg. I know this is suppose to be a video sharing site, with the intention of sharing high quality videos. Its understandable that not all content belongs and can be harmful in someway. Such as content that depicts or promotes violence and pornography. But what did my little Geometry Wars video ever do. Some people found it helpful, this is why the internet is so great if you have a question, just search for it and more than likely someone else already has an answer. I wonder why youtube is so popular.

Vimeo’s Statement

If the true problem is the size of the video why not make a cap. Say make your game videos shorter to not stress the transcoder.

Like shown in this post in case you forgot. Link Had I known deleting video game content is what Blake Whitman meant by this

but we are taking measures in the upcoming weeks to combat the increase in traffic

I probably would have been a lot more vocal.

Here was the original post How to get 1000000 points in geometry wars.

Sony is back with a new handheld system which is really there old handheld system redesigned. They will call it the PSP Sidekick I mean the PSP Go and will officially reveal it at e3 this June. Of course nothing is ever revealed when it is suppose to be thanks to the internet. But maybe this was the plan to gain some hype in the hype machine before e3. Is this system a go or a no go. I for one think its very sleek and sexy but the analog still looks to be a problem once again, I mean they should just get rid of it. Come on do you see how close that thing is to the buttons. You would have to play all deformed to make use of that analog, they should just save some more space and rid us all of the half attempted analog nub. I see many PSP go’s on the floor because It wont looks like people wont be able to keep a good grip on the thing when using the analog nub. This is just me ranting I am still very anxious to get my hand on one and play around with it.

Here is a video I made showing off Gunpey a completely under rated game that deserved much more attention then it received. In fact good ol IGN gave it a terrible review
PSP Review
while giving the DS version DS Review a much better review.

Gunpey from Encript on Vimeo.

Now I understand why they gave the DS version a better rating and its all due to the control mechanics. The DS stylist makes controlling and moving the lines a whole lot easier. Hopefully if they are to make another game they could work on a few of the control issues. They are minor but a small tweak can completely change this game. As a suggestion it might be a better idea to make hold and drag physics to move the pieces instead of the click and click. Because you don’t know if your moving it up or down. When this game gets faster you cant afford to mess up and make a mistake like that. Q entertainment the creators of such gems such as lumines and every extended extra normally have a knack for making these types of puzzle games but you cant get it right all the time. Perhaps this game cannot be made on a traditional controller and might be better off on an iphone. So just take a look at this video and see if it appeals to you. If you liked lumines at all you will love the rhythm, music tracks and skill needed to play this game.

As I have stated on a previous post the psp desperately needs a new method for typing. Simply because the current method sucks horribly. l0rdnic0 from psp dev has come up with a way to take the Xbox 360 chat pad and some how through the grace of God got it to work on a PSP. With a custom flashed chatpad and a modified version of piKey he was able to achieve this cool hack. His work has been uploaded, check out the video proof which I linked above. I feel sony should take a gander at this and think; maybe in their next console they can make a better keyboard so people wont feel the need to make there own.

I have owned a psp since it first came out and one thing about it has always been a gripe of mine. The fact that typing on it sucks big time. There hasn’t been much of an effort to correct how terrible typing on a psp can be. It’s frustratingly difficult and a pain. Then I started playing with writingpad a shape writing technology app for the iPhone where you can draw the word instead of typing it. If this can be maniputated or interpreted so words can be scrolled on instread of touched could be loads easier then clicking on a button a hundred times to get to the letter you want. Lord help you if you missed a letter then you have to start over to find the letter you just missed. But if you can just draw on a virtual keyboard then typing will in essence be much easier. Just an idea out there for any one ***cough Sony*** who would like to incorperate this technology in to their products.

Take a look at this video of what looks like crash nitro kart for the iPhone. The graphics are way better then the DS and comparable to the PSP. Seems like apple unintentionally is now in the gaming market. Imagine a brain age port for the iPhone. You could practically port Nintendo DS games and remake them for the iPhone and it would most likely be better. I always thought two screens was a gimmick but touch games I hold in high regard. If apple can keep this up maybe then can officially jump into the gaming business.

Just a day after 4.01 M33 was released Dark Alex does it again releasing an update to his custom firmware for the psp. This update was very easy to do if your already on a custom firmware. All you do is make a folder called UPDATE and place it in your GAME folder on your memory stick. In this folder you place the official 4.01 update file but you rename it to 401.PBP. Then it uses the official sony updater software to get on you 4.01 M33. Once your on the latest firmware then you can grab the 4.01 M33-2 and update it the same way, place it in your update folder on your memory stick and run the updater. Note that if your running homebrew on 4XX kernel you need to rename your folder to GAME4XX respectively. This will help you out so you don’t have to keep renaming your folders every time a new firmware is released. After it was stated that 1.50 firmware kernel would no longer be used, Dark Alex does just that and also adds 1.50 firmware kernel. If you wish to install this add on place it in under your GAME4XX folder on your memory stick. Then grab the official sony 1.50 firmware rename it to 150.PBP and place it on the root of your memory stick then you can run the addon. So if you were reluctant on upgrading this shouldnt stop you since now everything should now run fine.

Update After running some tests it looks as though wifi might not be functioning correctly. I have one PSP with 3.90 M33-3 and another just updated to 4.01 M33-2 and when trying to communicate to play wifi it is very iffy. They use to work fine when they were both on 3.90 M33. Emulators that use to work on wifi no longer work and Space Invaders Extreme also does not work correctly. It states that you should check the wifi switch even though its switched in the proper place. Please confirm with me if anyone else is having this issue after updating.

Update 2 I needed to run macfixer because i had switched motherboard that was totally my bad wifi working correctly and all working thanks darkalex for another piece of gold.
